Subject: LiSoG project „Open Source based Desktop Benchmark“ Letter of Intent
Dear Sir or Madam,
we certify hereby that <company / organization> represented by <name of the representative> the objectives of the project „Open Source based Desktop Benchmark“ of Linux Solutions Group are known and supported.
The business need is caused by a EU council directive1. This directive aspire to ensure equal opportunities for small and medium enterprises concerning tenders of applications within public organizations. This means that public organizations have to phrase their requests for bids independently of producers or vendors. Therefore, public organizations have to use independent measurements to specify the required abilities. Usually certain benchmark results are used. A common used benchmark is the Bapco SYSmark Benchmark. Unfortunately, this benchmark is operating system dependent. Babco's SYSmark supports only Windows and focuses on measuring the software performance data, which is mainly Microsoft based.
There are benchmark tests for Linux servers, but up to now not for desktop PCs. This causes disadvantages for the use of Linux operating systems and open source software in this sector. Therefore the Linux Solutions Group initiated the project „Open Source based Desktop Benchmark“ with following objectives:
-
Define a specification of a Linux Benchmarksuite focussing on use cases required for office desktop users
-
Identify organizations capable to implement and run the Open Source based Benchmarksuite
We agree that our company's / organization's name can be referred in public communication regarding this project. (if not, please cross that line)
